“History is the unending dialogue between the past and the present”

            History provides the window to the past and we are faced with evolution of the world, origin of species and how things evolved in a manner curious as well as interesting. Stories of human endeavour and emergence of civilization an ever-changing world history is replete with all these and thus is the fountain of knowledge.

 LOKD college since its inception started history as one core subjects. On 15th July, 1970 present Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College was established amidst great enthusiasm of the local people as it was a dream come true for them. Along with the establishment of the college HISTORY was introduced as a subject in the Pre-University (present Higher secondary) level with Mr. M. C. Das as head of the department. From 1975 onwards Mr. Das acted as the Vice-Principal of the college. At the initial stage the strength of student in the first and second year Pre-University classes was 116 and 118 respectively. Consequently after two years History was introduced as one of the pass subjects at degree level. Public and students demand for introducing Honours(Major) in History came to reality during session 1984-85
