The department of English of Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Dhekiajuli was one of the oldest Departments of the College, which came into being with establishment of the College in 1970, English being a core subject for the undergratuate courses.The department provides a vibrant academic space commited to nurturing critical thinking, linguistic competence and literary sensibility among studentsfrom diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds by playing a pivotal role in bridiging educational gaps and empowering first-generation learners through quality higher education.
Established with the vision of promoting humanistic inquiry and communicative excellence, the Department offers undergraduate courses in English literature and language, aiming to cultivate analytical skills, cultural awareness and ethical responsibility.
Recognising the linguistic diversity of local space, the Department actively supports students transitioning from vernacular-medium schooling to English-medium higher education. Through literary activities and mentoring programs, the Department strives to create an inclusive academic environment that fosters confidence, creativity, and intellectual growth amongst the students.
The Department also encourages community engagement by organising extension activities and outreach programs. It seeks to extend learning beyond the classroom and cultivate society responsible graduate equipped for professional careers and public service.
