Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das college was established in the year 1970. Since its inception, Bengali department has been a part and parcel of the college. But it took long twenty years when in 1990 the college introduced Major courses in the department. Since then many students have passed out from Bengali department with genuine quality.

Department of Bengali is the epicenter of its culture and heritage. The department provide students platform for various academic and other important programs with an environment that is intellectually stimulating and challenging and seeks to teach them not only the discipline in all is  dimension but also valuable life lessons. While it maintains an  atmosphere that is friendly and helpful, the Department prides itself in adherence schedules , it insists on serious sustained study.
